Yes. We use organic cotton and natural dyes, avoiding harsh chemicals commonly found in conventional textile processing.

Natural dyes may gradually soften and evolve with use, washing, and sunlight, much like denim or naturally aged wood. This gentle change is a natural characteristic of plant-based dyes and part of their unique beauty.

With proper care, your Nunhum garment will retain its color while developing its own character over time. We recommend washing in cold water with a mild detergent, avoiding long soaking, and drying in the shade.

Natural dyes are colors derived from plants and natural materials such as marigold flowers, pomegranate skins, indigo, and myrobalan (hirda), instead of synthetic chemical dyes.

At present, Nunhum does not hold third-party organic cotton or natural dye certifications.

We believe in being transparent about this. Rather than relying on certification labels, we work with trusted institutions in Wardha that have been practicing ethical and sustainable production for generations.

Our cotton is sourced through Gram Seva Mandal, Wardha, founded by Acharya Vinoba Bhave in 1934, which operates an organic cotton processing center. Our natural dyeing is carried out by Magan Khadi, Wardha, an institution established by Mahatma Gandhi in 1938 to promote village industries, self-reliance, and sustainable production.

These organizations have spent decades building trust through their work and values. We know where our cotton comes from, who spins the yarn, who weaves the fabric, and who dyes the cloth. This direct relationship and transparency are central to how we work.

While we may pursue certifications in the future, today our commitment is rooted in the Gandhian principles of honesty, craftsmanship, and accountability, and in the long-standing relationships we have with the people and institutions behind every Nunhum garment.
